Radford is great for Birding in Virginia! Boasting four stops on the Lower New River Loop of Virginia’s Birding and Wildlife Trail, Radford is home to more than 200 different types of birds throughout the year. Ranging from the densely-wooded Wildwood Park to bird viewing platforms overlooking the New River at Riverview Park and near Dudley’s Landing, there are many opportunities to observe birds in their natural habitat.
One of the most unique vantage points for bird viewing can be gained, however, by stepping off dry land and boating, kayaking, or floating down the New River to catch glimpses of birds flying overhead, swooping down onto the water, or hiding amongst the trees and brush. It is a trip that won’t soon be forgotten! And if you can’t bring your own boat or tube, be sure to check out New River Adventure in Bisset Park for canoe, kayak, and inner tube rentals.
